As most of you know the health and safety of you and the people around you is of huge importance in whatever we do, whether that be sport, DIY or repairing and spray painting a car. Some activities have obvious dangers (e.g. jacking your car up to access the underneath, or climbing a ladder) but others are less obvious – as is the case with spray painting a car.
2K car paint dries by chemical reaction and has a hardener, or activator, added before spraying which contains a chemical called isocyanate. Isocyanates can be extremely hazardous to your respiratory system if you don’t take steps to protect yourself. A Reusable Gerson Mask or Air Fed Masks should always be worn.
Wear goggles, lint-free overalls and gloves to protect the eyes and skin against potential damage from toxins. Some people are allergic to latex or the powder inside the glove so choose nitrile gloves or the powder-free latex gloves to suit your skin type.
